Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, the Omanhene of Oguaa and the chiefs and elders of the Oguaa Traditional Council have accepted the apology rendered by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on behalf of P.C. Appiah Ofori, the Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, for his negative utterances about the council after last year’s Oguaa Fetu Afahye Festival in Cape Coast.

According to the General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie aka Sir John, a letter dated 27th January 2011, and signed in Cape Coast by both Osabarima Kwesi Atta II and Fred Oware, 1st Vice Chairman of the NPP said, “Both parties have agreed to let peace prevail.

“The Omanhen and the Council wish to work together with the NPP to promote peace and deepen the cordial relationship which has existed between the Palace, Council and the party.”

The letter indicated that Osabarima and the Council “hold no grudges against the NPP nor the presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo and other party functionaries.”

In a related development, Northern Regional Executives of the NPP have resolved their differences and pledged to ensure that peace and unity existed in the party.

A news release issued in Accra and signed by Perry Okudzeto, acting Communications Director of the party, said “at a meeting held by the National Executive Committee of the party today, the Northern Regional branch of the party has resolved to co-exist in peace and harmony and work in the collective interest of the party.”

He said, “After fruitful and frank exchanges, the parties involved have agreed to bury their differences and work together towards victory in 2012.”

The parties agreed that all radio discussions on such matters be ceased with immediate effect.

Mr. Okudzeto said the Regional Council of Elders had been tasked to discipline anyone found culpable in the events that necessitated the meeting.

The meeting was attended by the flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, National Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie and other members of the National Executive.

The Northern Regional Executive and party members involved in the impasse were also in attendance.
